SAFETY DEVICES USED IN HAULAGE ROADWAYS

Safety Devices Used In Haulage Roadways Stop Block: They are made in difficult forms & are used to stop or derail a moving tub on a track. Generally a wooden block which is pivoted to the sleeper at one end is kept across the track to derail the unwanted tubs. The track can be cleared by positioning the wooden block inclined with the track. It is used in direct rope haulage & main & tail rope haulage Backstay or Drag : These are used behind an ascending set of tubs as a safe guard against a broken rope or coupling. It is very strong & made up of steel of rail section. If the tub coupling or rope breaks, the ascending tub starts moving backward. At the pointed end of the drag gets fixed in the ground or sleeper to derail the tubs. It is used in direct rope haulage. BUFFERS When any roadway or face is in direct line with a haulage track and persons may be exposed from runaway tubs, strong buffers is provided and maintained on haulage road to prevent da...

AERIAL ROPE WAY

AERIAL ROPE WAY An aerial rope way is an installation in which transportation of material or men is effected by moving carries pulled by ropes suspended above the ground. Types: One the basis of number of ropes & the mode of transportation, the ropeways are classified as: Mono-cable ropeway – the ropeway has a single running endless rope which both support & moves the carriers. Bi-cable ropeway – the ropeway has two fixed track ropes along which the carriers are hauled by an endless traction rope. Twin-cable ropeway – the ropeway has two pairs of track ropes to support the carriers & one endless traction rope. Applicability Aerial rope way provides the only economic means of long distance transport over rough country, hilly & difficult terrain, even it can pass through the congested areas, marshy lands, nallhas, rivers, forests and important agricultural land. Transporting and conveying bulk materials between two fixed points. Aerial dumping of load at...

CONVEYOR SYSTEM OF HAULAGE USED IN UNDERGROUND MINES

CONVEYOR SYSTEM OF HAULAGE 1)Belt Conveyor. 2)Chain Conveyor. click here to view video BELT CONVEYOR The belt conveyor is basically an endless belt in a straight line, stretched between two drums, one driving the system & other acting as a return drum. In coal mines and other mines of stratified deposits, where the underground mineral if won by long wall  method, the transport media which often consists of conveyor. The belt is an endless thick flat strip of woven cotton, rayon or nylon fabric laid up in piles, or layers & their surfaces and sides covered with rubber, plastic or P.V.C. The belt having nylon fabric are strong as nylon offers very high resistance to longitudinal tearing and damage due to edge turn up. Nylon also improves the resistance to impact damage and the belts are more flexible, light in weight, have better fastener-holding properties and are also design for use on deep troughing idlers. Such belts are however costlier than the ...

TYPES OF LOCOMOTIVE HAULAGE IN UNDERGROUND MINES

TYPES OF LOCOMOTIVE HAULAGE ARE :- 1)Diesel locomotive. 2)Electric locomotive:- a)Over head wire locomotive. b)Trolley wire locomotive. 3)Electric battery locomotive. 4)Compressed air locomotive. DIESEL LOCOMOTIVE This are commonly used in number of mines. There weight ranges from 3 tone to 15 tone and the power from 15 KW to 75 KW. The power unit is a diesel engine with 2,3 or 4 cylinders of 4 stroke cycle , compressed ignition type. Heavy duty locos are of six cylinders. Locos used in underground coal mines have the power unit in a flame proof enclosure as a safeguard against ignition of fire damp. In the coal mines diesel locomotives are not allowed  to be used where the percentage of inflammable gases is more than 1.25% in the general body of the air. Hence these are generally used in intake roadways. The exhaust of the diesel engine includes oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide & small quantities of oxides of Su...
