UNIVERSAL DRILLING MACHINE IN UNDERGROUND MINES

Universal Drilling Machine In Underground Mines (UDM)

It is a crawler mounted electro-hydraulic machine which can drill blast-holes in the face and also Drill holes for roof/side/floor bolting at various angle. hence it I known as Universal Drilling Machine (UDM).

 Universal Drilling Machine
The machine can drill holes from 38 to 63mm diameter and 3 to 5 meter deep. By adding more drill rods, holes upto 20m long can be drilled. Hence it is found very useful in blasting gallery panels also.
The UDM can work in gradient upto 1 in 4 and in seam heights upto 3.5m.
The height of UDM is  1.6m, length is 4.6m and width of UDM is 1m .
The travelling speed of UDM is 3km/h.
The machine is provided with a 22kw flame proof motor.

Safety Device In UDM

Rear Brake
Parking Brake
Audio Visual Alarm
Canopy
Hand lever
Light
Foot switch

Advantages

Due to speedy drilling production and productivity of loading machines (SDL, LHD) also increase considerably.
Handheld drill can not drill long holes but, UDM permits drilling of longer holes easily.
The UDM is provided with flameproof motor.
It has a strong canopy which prevent any fall of roof or object on the UDM operator.
By adding more drill rods, it can drill holes upto 20m long.
lights are provided, which provide sufficient light to UDM operator to work in underground mines.
It can move in narrow galleries and can take sharp turns.

SIDE DISCHARGE LOADER MACHINE (SDL) IN UNDERGROUND MINES

SIDE DISCHARGE LOADER MACHINE It is a popular coal loading machine of u/g mines. Which is mounted on the crawler track and is designed for loading the broken rocks on to a conveyor, in tub or to unload coal to the right or left of the machine. Being crawler mounted the SDL can work in gradient up to 1 in 4. It is totally flameproof machine, which make them suitable for operation in gassy mines.  Side Discharge Loader Machine A SDL has a bucket at front, which load the coal /ore from the face and transport or dump onto the chain conveyor, belt conveyor  which is installed near the faces or in tub and mine cars. All the movements of bucket are done hydraulically for which hydraulic pack is mounted on machine itself. The bucket capacity of SDL is 1𝒎^𝟑. The Motor capacity is 65 HP/ 550 V. the motor shall be DGMS approved and ISI marked. The SDL can work in distance upto 10m. Due to its crawler mounted it is not use for long distances. The SDL is used wher

DRUM WINDING IN MINES

DRUM WINDING There are four different shapes of Drum used in India these are A)Cylindrical Drum. B)Conical Drum. C)Cylindro-conical Drum. D)By-Cylindro-conical Drum. CYLINDRICAL DRUM A Cylindrical or parallel drum is a simple and robust in construction. The winding ropes are attached at the end of the drum barrel, and arrange to coil on the drum in the opposite direction, so that when the drum rotates one cage will be raised and other lowered. The rope coiling underneath the drum is called  under lap. The rope coiling over the top of the drum is the   overlap. It may be either grooved or plain. Its serious drawback is that,  it can be used for shallow shaft only. In winding from deep shaft, the weight of one winding  rope will exceed the weight of the coal raised per wind. Thus there will an excessive load on engine when starting and negative loads towards the end of the wind causing heavy brake wear. This unbalancing of load in cylindrica

Shovel In Mining

Shovel In Mines Shovel is the most commonly used excavating equipment in opencast mines. It is mounted on crawler. This machine excavate the rock or ore by digging for its operating base to upward (crown motion) & dump it either on the dumper or railway wagon or on the spoil heap. Shovel may be electrically operated or diesel operated depending on the mode of transmission. There are basically two types of shovel used in mining operations. a)Rope Shovel        b)Hydraulic Shovel The Main Parts Of Rope Shovel Are:   The Main Parts Of Hydraulic Shovel Are: A shovel's work cycle, or digging cycle, consists of four phases: a) Digging b) Dumping c) Swinging d) Returning The   digging  phase consists of crowding the dipper into the bank, hoisting the dipper to fill it, then retracting the full dipper from the bank.  The swinging  phase occurs once the dipper is clear of the bank both vertically and horizontally. The operator con
