UNIVERSAL DRILLING MACHINE IN UNDERGROUND MINES

Universal Drilling Machine In Underground Mines (UDM)

It is a crawler mounted electro-hydraulic machine which can drill blast-holes in the face and also Drill holes for roof/side/floor bolting at various angle. hence it I known as Universal Drilling Machine (UDM).

 Universal Drilling Machine
The machine can drill holes from 38 to 63mm diameter and 3 to 5 meter deep. By adding more drill rods, holes upto 20m long can be drilled. Hence it is found very useful in blasting gallery panels also.
The UDM can work in gradient upto 1 in 4 and in seam heights upto 3.5m.
The height of UDM is  1.6m, length is 4.6m and width of UDM is 1m .
The travelling speed of UDM is 3km/h.
The machine is provided with a 22kw flame proof motor.

Safety Device In UDM

Rear Brake
Parking Brake
Audio Visual Alarm
Canopy
Hand lever
Light
Foot switch

Advantages

Due to speedy drilling production and productivity of loading machines (SDL, LHD) also increase considerably.
Handheld drill can not drill long holes but, UDM permits drilling of longer holes easily.
The UDM is provided with flameproof motor.
It has a strong canopy which prevent any fall of roof or object on the UDM operator.
By adding more drill rods, it can drill holes upto 20m long.
lights are provided, which provide sufficient light to UDM operator to work in underground mines.
It can move in narrow galleries and can take sharp turns.

SAFETY DEVICES USED IN HAULAGE ROADWAYS

Safety Devices Used In Haulage Roadways Stop Block: They are made in difficult forms & are used to stop or derail a moving tub on a track. Generally a wooden block which is pivoted to the sleeper at one end is kept across the track to derail the unwanted tubs. The track can be cleared by positioning the wooden block inclined with the track. It is used in direct rope haulage & main & tail rope haulage Backstay or Drag : These are used behind an ascending set of tubs as a safe guard against a broken rope or coupling. It is very strong & made up of steel of rail section. If the tub coupling or rope breaks, the ascending tub starts moving backward. At the pointed end of the drag gets fixed in the ground or sleeper to derail the tubs. It is used in direct rope haulage. BUFFERS When any roadway or face is in direct line with a haulage track and persons may be exposed from runaway tubs, strong buffers is provided and maintained on haulage road to prevent da...

LOAD HAUL DUMP MACHINE (LHD) IN UNDERGROUND MINES

LOAD HAUL DUMP MACHINE (LHD) LOAD HAUL DUMP MACHINE L.H.D is used in underground mines for the loading, hauling and dumping of the material from the working face. L.H.D’S  are used in more than 75% of the u/g mines throughout the world.  L.H.D are available in both Diesel & Electric versions. Diesel version is easily transportable from one location to another and have diesel engines as power drive of 75 to 150 HP or more. Engines are either water or air cooled. L.H.D with Electric motors as drives have general capacity of 75 to 150 HP. These are operative at medium voltage of 380 to 550 volts. Flexible trailing cables are provided with reeling/unreeling facility to feed power. In L.H.D machine an axial piston type motor is used. The maximum speed of L.H.D is nearly, 8-10 km/hr. when the  machine is Empty.  But when the L.H.D machine is loaded the maximum speed is 3-5 km/hr. The standard bucket capacity of the L.H.D is  1.6...

TYPES OF ROPE HAULAGE USED IN UNDERGROUND MINES FOR THE TRANSPORT OF ORE.

Types of Rope Haulage 1)Direct rope haulage:- a)Single drum direct rope haulage b)Double drum direct rope haulage 2)Main & tail rope haulage 3)Endless rope haulage:- a)Under rope endless rope haulage b)Over rope endless rope haulage 4)Gravity rope haulage 1)Direct Rope Haulage a)Single Drums Direct Rope Haulage : This is simplest system of rope haulage.  It consists of one track , one rope & one drum which are connected to a motor through gears.  One end of the rope is connected with the train of tubs on the track & another end of the rope is connected to the drum.   When the drum rotates situated at the top of the incline , the loaded tubs moves upwards.   But for the downward journey of the empty tubs it does not require any power because a tub moves downward due to their own weight.   The system can be on inclines steeper than 1 in 12 & the speed of the haulage is 8-12 km/h. ...
