LOAD HAUL DUMP MACHINE (LHD) IN UNDERGROUND MINES

LOAD HAUL DUMP MACHINE (LHD)

LOAD HAUL DUMP MACHINE

L.H.D is used in underground mines for the loading, hauling and dumping of the material from the working face.
L.H.D’S  are used in more than 75% of the u/g mines throughout the world.
L.H.D are available in both Diesel & Electric versions.
Diesel version is easily transportable from one location to another and have diesel engines as power drive of 75 to 150 HP or more.
Engines are either water or air cooled.
L.H.D with Electric motors as drives have general capacity of 75 to 150 HP.
These are operative at medium voltage of 380 to 550 volts.
Flexible trailing cables are provided with reeling/unreeling facility to feed power.
In L.H.D machine an axial piston type motor is used.
The maximum speed of L.H.D is nearly, 8-10 km/hr. when the  machine is Empty.  But when the L.H.D machine is loaded the maximum speed is 3-5 km/hr.
The standard bucket capacity of the L.H.D is  1.6𝒎^𝟑.
The bucket is uplifted with the help of hydraulic pressure.
The expected output per day is 200te - 500te/day.
L.H.D has electrical flameproof components.
L.H.D is suitable where, Thickness of seam is more than 1.8m.
The average gradient of seam should be 1 in 7. if it is more than this then L.H.D machine will not work on it.
L.H.D machine is tire mounted.

SAFETY PROVISIONS

In L.H.D machine emergency and parking brakes with fire resistant hydraulic fluid is used.
Head lights, audible warning signal, back up alarm and portable fire extinguisher are provided.
Special cabin/canopy is also provided for safety of operator.
A safety device is provided to shut off the engine if exhaust gases exceed temperature of 〖𝟖𝟓〗^𝟎C( or as per set value).

SAFETY DEVICES USED IN HAULAGE ROADWAYS

Safety Devices Used In Haulage Roadways Stop Block: They are made in difficult forms & are used to stop or derail a moving tub on a track. Generally a wooden block which is pivoted to the sleeper at one end is kept across the track to derail the unwanted tubs. The track can be cleared by positioning the wooden block inclined with the track. It is used in direct rope haulage & main & tail rope haulage Backstay or Drag : These are used behind an ascending set of tubs as a safe guard against a broken rope or coupling. It is very strong & made up of steel of rail section. If the tub coupling or rope breaks, the ascending tub starts moving backward. At the pointed end of the drag gets fixed in the ground or sleeper to derail the tubs. It is used in direct rope haulage. BUFFERS When any roadway or face is in direct line with a haulage track and persons may be exposed from runaway tubs, strong buffers is provided and maintained on haulage road to prevent da...

DRUM WINDING IN MINES

DRUM WINDING There are four different shapes of Drum used in India these are A)Cylindrical Drum. B)Conical Drum. C)Cylindro-conical Drum. D)By-Cylindro-conical Drum. CYLINDRICAL DRUM A Cylindrical or parallel drum is a simple and robust in construction. The winding ropes are attached at the end of the drum barrel, and arrange to coil on the drum in the opposite direction, so that when the drum rotates one cage will be raised and other lowered. The rope coiling underneath the drum is called  under lap. The rope coiling over the top of the drum is the   overlap. It may be either grooved or plain. Its serious drawback is that,  it can be used for shallow shaft only. In winding from deep shaft, the weight of one winding  rope will exceed the weight of the coal raised per wind. Thus there will an excessive load on engine when starting and negative loads towards the end of the wind causing heavy brake wear. This unbalanci...
